Hypcon contacts

HYPCON technology uses a unique system of a multiple linear connection between a pin (for a male connector) and a hyperboloid socket (for a female connector). The contact part of the socket bears a number of contact spring wires wound inside the socket at a small angle to the centre line, thus forming a rotary hyperboloid.

When the pin and socket are mated, the wires stretch themselves and the hyperboloid socket accommodates the round pin. Thus the wires mould around the pin and ensure a number of linear tensioned contacts with extreme reliability, even if the connector is exposed to shocks, accelerations and vibrations. Contact force results from the elastic deformation of wires.

HYPCON contact manufacture
Kolektor Tesla Jihlava s.r.o. counts among a very limited number of world manufacturers of contacts with hyperboloid technology. Our expertise began in 1971 when we started to manufacture this contacts system under licence. The excellent parameters of HYPCON contacts result not only from the know-how acquired from the licence, but also from the further development and experience we have been gaining for many years.

Some types are standardized, but most HYPCON contacts are custom designed. On request we can supply contacts which differ both in diameter and in shape from the samples we show on this website. Design parameters (number, angle and diameter of wires, plating etc.) can also be modified to meet the required characteristics of the contact. Nominal diameters of our contacts start from 0.6 mm, and can stretch up to tens of a millimetre.

Key advantages of HYPCON contacts:
  • Low contact resistance (one of the lowest values among existing contact systems)
  • Low mating and unmating forces
  • Long contact life (up to 100 thousand mating / unmating cycles)
  • High reliability even if exposed to shocks and vibrations (maximum mating interruption – if any – less than 2 ns)
  • High stability of electric and mechanical parameters over an extremely high number of mating and unmating cycles
  • High current and voltage ratings
